Concerning Our Natures

Hello, everyone.

Today's post is concerned with human nature and the purpose of government. I attempt to explain (part) of my socio-political outlook, as well as attempting to lead the listener through my train of thought. The podcast can be found below, as a .mp3.

For those unfamiliar with Thomas Hobbes, I attempt to explain his relevant points. I strongly suggest reading him, however, at least the Leviathan, so that one can better understand my reasoning, as well as Hobbes' singular flaw, mentioned and expounded upon in my podcast.

  2. I smell a professor in the making! Frederick Sontag said "philosophy as it is written by philosophers comes into existence only because certain human problems force us to seek solutions." Sounds like you're working on the basic tenets for your theory/argument. Please consider including the text of your podcasts so that bits can be reviewed easier.

  3. I suppose it comes down to your feelings on what is important in life; the main defense of liberty is that it allows people to seek happiness. Your argument that thought is what separates us from animals is convincing, but not why we should follow logic to the exclusion of all else, including happiness. If being happy isn't what we should live for, what is? Ditto the comment about including the text.

  4. I'm surprised you invited my comments as you must know my overriding entity is God. I believe the nature you speak of that we need to overcome is our sin nature and as far as your comments on collectivism God calls us to that too. We become part of the body of Christ all acting to achieve God's will and happiness is not the goal, God's plan being accomplished is the goal. That's why so many Christian's have suffered horrible things all for the Kingdom of God. I know most philosophers and logicians think God can't possibly fit in the concept of logic but your podcast made me see God's plan is actually more logical than I ever thought... It lined up to what you were saying so closely I was stunned (minus the cyborg talk) ok feel free to ban me from your site if you'd like because I can only see things through the lens of God and I wouldn't want to preach in the wrong forum.<3
